Should You Choose Stackable Wedding Bands?

Stackable or stacked wedding rings are one of the hottest trends in wedding jewelry right now. While the trend might seem new, it has roots in Scandinavian culture. In Scandinavia, it is very common for women to wear three rings—one for engagement, one for marriage and one for motherhood. Are stackable wedding bands right for you?

Stacked Wedding Rings 101

Some brides think that stacked wedding rings are simply traditional bridal sets (one engagement ring and one wedding ring) worn together at the same time. Most bridal sets are designed to lock together and are only two pieces. Stacked rings are slightly different, as they can be mixed and matched, consist of anywhere from three to five rings and be created a broad range of shapes, sizes and colors. Many brides like stackable wedding bands because they allow for a great deal of versatility and creativity. Instead of wearing the same band every day, you can wear an entire stack one day and one or two bands the next.

How Can You Stack Wedding Bands?

Some of the most common ways to build a wedding ring or band into a stack include:

· Adding a milestone stacking band for every special anniversary (10th, 25th, etc.)

· Adding a band to commemorate your goals as a couple, like traveling overseas, opening a business or buying a house

· Adding a ring with birthstones from all of your children that you can update over time

· Adding a ring as a holiday gift, like Christmas or Valentine’s Day

How to Choose and Match Rings

Wedding bands are not necessarily matched right off the bat, as they are designed to be added to over time. One of the great things about stackable wedding bands is that it’s much easier to mix and match metals and stones. You can keep a cohesive theme and use the same metal for all of your bands, or mix things up with different design eras and precious gemstones. The most important thing is having fun and creating something that reflects your wonderful relationship together.
